Everything collected for one instrument in one interval - the unit handed to MetricExporter.
Parameters
descriptor
identifies the instrument these points came from.
timestamp
stamped once per collection cycle, so every point in a cycle lines up on a chart.
points
one entry per attribute set that recorded at least one measurement this cycle.
