# TagResource


Creates or updates a resource tag. Each tag is a label consisting of a user-defined key and value. Tags can help you manage, identify, organize, search for, and filter resources.

## Request Syntax

PUT /tags/ResourceArn HTTP/1.1

      "string" : "string"

```

## URI Request Parameters


The request uses the following URI parameters.

 ** [ResourceArn](#API_TagResource_RequestSyntax) **   <a name="mpa-TagResource-request-uri-ResourceArn"></a>
Amazon Resource Name (ARN) for the resource you want to tag.  
Length Constraints: Minimum length of 0. Maximum length of 1000.  
Required: Yes

## Request Body


The request accepts the following data in JSON format.

 ** [Tags](#API_TagResource_RequestSyntax) **   <a name="mpa-TagResource-request-Tags"></a>
Tags that you have added to the specified resource.  
Type: String to string map  
Key Length Constraints: Minimum length of 1. Maximum length of 128.  
Value Length Constraints: Minimum length of 0. Maximum length of 256.  
Required: Yes

## Response Syntax

```

## Response Elements


If the action is successful, the service sends back an HTTP 200 response with an empty HTTP body.

The specified resource doesn't exist. Check the resource ID, and try again.

 [ThrottlingException](API_ThrottlingException.md)   
The request was denied due to request throttling.

 [TooManyTagsException](API_TooManyTagsException.md)   
The request exceeds the maximum number of tags allowed for this resource. Remove some tags, and try again.

Message for the `TooManyTagsException` error.  
 ** ResourceName **   
Name of the resource for the `TooManyTagsException` error.
HTTP Status Code: 400

The input fails to satisfy the constraints specified by an AWS service.
