Well-Architected Framework Review (WAFR) - AWS Well-Architected Tool

Well-Architected Framework Review (WAFR)

The Well-Architected Framework describes key concepts and design principles for creating and running workloads in the cloud. It helps you understand the pros and cons of decisions you make while building systems on AWS. With the help of the Framework you will learn architectural best practices for designing and operating reliable, secure, efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable applications.

During the Well-Architected Framework Review (WAFR), you will answer a set of foundational questions to learn how well your architecture aligns with cloud best practices and receive guidance for implementing improvements.

WAFR phases

The WAFR process consists of three main phases:

  • Prepare: Set up for success with proper planning and stakeholder alignment

  • Review: Conduct the actual assessment against AWS best practices

  • Improve: Turn findings into actionable improvements for your workload

This document guides you through the three phases, verifying that you have sufficient preparation to derive the most value from the review phase. We also guide you towards turning your WAFR findings into actionable improvements for your workload.
