Launch a new desktop - Research and Engineering Studio

End of development notice: AWS is discontinuing development of Research and Engineering Studio on AWS (RES). 2026.09 is the final release, supported through September 30, 2027. RES remains open source and keeps running in your account. For more information, see RES end of support.

Launch a new desktop

  1. From the menu, choose My Virtual Desktops.

  2. Choose Launch New Virtual Desktop.

  3. Enter the details for your new desktop.

  4. Choose Submit.

A new card with your desktop information appears instantly, and your desktop will be ready to use within 10 to 15 minutes. Startup time depends on the selected image. RES detects GPU instances and installs the relevant drivers.
