Design principles
The AWS Well-Architected Framework identifies a set of general design principles to facilitate superior design in the cloud. In addition, the following design principles should also be considered for designing and operating telco workloads:
-
Cross-functional collaboration: Foster collaboration between network engineers, cloud architects, ISV architects, and security experts to verify efficient communication and knowledge sharing across the organization.
-
Governance integration: Systematically assess and verify telco governance frameworks, regulatory mandates, and security requirements across network operations.
-
Risk-based decision making: Conduct comprehensive analysis of benefits, risks, and tradeoffs associated with telco workloads to make informed architectural and operational decisions.
-
Multi-account isolation with interoperability: Implement a strategic multi-account architecture that effectively separates and isolates telecommunications workloads while maintaining necessary interconnectivity and operational efficiency.
-
Observability-driven operations: Design and implement comprehensive observability, traceability, and monitoring frameworks aligned with telecommunications workload requirements and business objectives.
-
Manage IP addressing effectively: Implement cloud-native IP address management (IPAM) solutions optimized for telco workloads requiring secondary network interfaces.
-
Verify resource availability: Plan for resource availability for scale-out scenarios in telecommunication workloads, considering both new service and run-rate capacity planning.
