Synopsis

Calls the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) DescribeInstanceTopology API operation.

Description

Describes a tree-based hierarchy that represents the physical host placement of your EC2 instances within an Availability Zone or Local Zone. You can use this information to determine the relative proximity of your EC2 instances within the Amazon Web Services network to support your tightly coupled workloads. Instance topology is supported for specific instance types only. For more information, see Prerequisites for Amazon EC2 instance topology in the Amazon EC2 User Guide. The Amazon EC2 API follows an eventual consistency model due to the distributed nature of the system supporting it. As a result, when you call the DescribeInstanceTopology API command immediately after launching instances, the response might return a null value for capacityBlockId because the data might not have fully propagated across all subsystems. This cmdlet automatically pages all available results to the pipeline - parameters related to iteration are only needed if you want to manually control the paginated output. To disable autopagination, use -NoAutoIteration.

Checks whether you have the required permissions for the operation, without actually making the request, and provides an error response. If you have the required permissions, the error response is DryRunOperation. Otherwise, it is UnauthorizedOperation.

The filters.
  • availability-zone - The name of the Availability Zone (for example, us-west-2a) or Local Zone (for example, us-west-2-lax-1b) that the instance is in.
  • instance-type - The instance type (for example, p4d.24xlarge) or instance family (for example, p4d*). You can use the * wildcard to match zero or more characters, or the ? wildcard to match zero or one character.
  • zone-id - The ID of the Availability Zone (for example, usw2-az2) or Local Zone (for example, usw2-lax1-az1) that the instance is in.
Starting with version 4 of the SDK this property will default to null. If no data for this property is returned from the service the property will also be null. This was changed to improve performance and allow the SDK and caller to distinguish between a property not set or a property being empty to clear out a value. To retain the previous SDK behavior set the AWSConfigs.InitializeCollections static property to true.

The token returned from a previous paginated request. Pagination continues from the end of the items returned by the previous request.
Note: This parameter is only used if you are manually controlling output pagination of the service API call.
'NextToken' is only returned by the cmdlet when '-Select *' is specified. In order to manually control output pagination, set '-NextToken' to null for the first call then set the 'NextToken' using the same property output from the previous call for subsequent calls.

-NoAutoIteration <SwitchParameter>
By default the cmdlet will auto-iterate and retrieve all results to the pipeline by performing multiple service calls. If set, the cmdlet will retrieve only the next 'page' of results using the value of NextToken as the start point.

Use the -Select parameter to control the cmdlet output. The default value is 'Instances'. Specifying -Select '*' will result in the cmdlet returning the whole service response (Amazon.EC2.Model.DescribeInstanceTopologyResponse). Specifying the name of a property of type Amazon.EC2.Model.DescribeInstanceTopologyResponse will result in that property being returned. Specifying -Select '^ParameterName' will result in the cmdlet returning the selected cmdlet parameter value.

This cmdlet returns a collection of Amazon.EC2.Model.InstanceTopology objects. The service call response (type Amazon.EC2.Model.DescribeInstanceTopologyResponse) can be returned by specifying '-Select *'.
