Release notes

June 2026

  • AWS Application Migration Service has been rebranded to AWS Transform MGN. All MGN capabilities remain unchanged. Same APIs, same replication engine, same compliance certifications (FedRAMP High, HIPAA, PCI DSS, ISO, SOC 1/2/3).

  • MGN now supports Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP as a target storage type (Public Preview). You can choose between Amazon EBS and FSx for ONTAP based on your workload requirements. For more information, see FSx for ONTAP configuration.

  • Added support for the following operating systems:

    • Windows 11

    • Oracle Linux 10.1

    • Oracle Linux 9.7

    • CentOS Stream 10

  • Added no-rescan upon reboot support for Windows Server 2025, CentOS Stream 9, and CentOS Stream 10. Learn more.

  • You can now update the user-provided ID for a source server. For more information, see Edit server.

  • You can now delete a source server from the service. For more information, see Actions menu.

May 2026

  • Updated network requirements to include the Amazon Linux 2023 (AL2023) package repository bucket for staging area subnet connectivity. This applies to both firewall-restricted environments (allowlist the dual-stack Amazon S3 URL) and isolated subnets without internet access (Amazon S3 VPC gateway endpoint policy). For more information, see Communication between the staging area subnet and S3.

  • Added support for CentOS Stream 9 operating system.

  • Added support for additional EC2 launch template storage parameters: Delete on termination, Volume initialization rate, KMS key, and EBS card index. For more information, see Full launch template setting review.

  • Service launch in these regions: Asia Pacific (New Zealand), Asia Pacific (Taipei), Canada West (Calgary), and Mexico (Central) Regions.

  • MGN now supports storing EBS snapshots locally within AWS Local Zones that support this feature. For more information, see Store snapshots in AWS Local Zone.

  • Added support for the following operating systems:

    • RHEL 9.7 and 10.1

    • Rocky Linux 9.7, 10, and 10.1

    • AlmaLinux 9.6, 9.7, 10, and 10.1

    • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 15 service packs 6 and 7

  • You can now use MGN over Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) for both service communication and application migrations.

  • MGN is now authorized for Department of Defense Cloud Computing Security Requirements Guide Impact Levels 4 and 5 (DoD CC SRG IL4 and IL5) in the AWS GovCloud (US-East and US-West) Regions.

  • Enabled tagging of network interfaces during RunInstances. 

    Updated the AWSApplicationMigrationFullAccess policy to support tagging network interface during runInstance. If you’re managing your own policy, you must include a statement allowing ec2:CreateTags on arn:aws:ec2:*:*:network-interface/* with a condition of “ec2:CreateAction”: [“RunInstances”].

  • Added support for RHEL 9.5 operating system.

  • Enabled tagging of network interfaces during RunInstances.

  • Changed the definition of the mgn:region import parameter, used in the Import feature. Providing a region other than the console region results in an error.
