# UpdatePartition


Updates a partition.

The request accepts the following data in JSON format.

 ** [CatalogId](#API_UpdatePartition_RequestSyntax) **   <a name="Glue-UpdatePartition-request-CatalogId"></a>
The ID of the Data Catalog where the partition to be updated resides. If none is provided, the AWS account ID is used by default.  
Type: String  
Length Constraints: Minimum length of 1. Maximum length of 255.  
Pattern: `[\u0020-\uD7FF\uE000-\uFFFD\uD800\uDC00-\uDBFF\uDFFF\t]*`   
Required: No

The name of the catalog database in which the table in question resides.  
Type: String  
Length Constraints: Minimum length of 1. Maximum length of 255.  
Pattern: `[\u0020-\uD7FF\uE000-\uFFFD\uD800\uDC00-\uDBFF\uDFFF\t]*`   
Required: Yes

The new partition object to update the partition to.  
The `Values` property can't be changed. If you want to change the partition key values for a partition, delete and recreate the partition.  
Type: [PartitionInput](API_PartitionInput.md) object  
Required: Yes

 ** [PartitionValueList](#API_UpdatePartition_RequestSyntax) **   <a name="Glue-UpdatePartition-request-PartitionValueList"></a>
List of partition key values that define the partition to update.  
Type: Array of strings  
Array Members: Minimum number of 0 items. Maximum number of 100 items.  
Length Constraints: Minimum length of 1. Maximum length of 1024.  
Required: Yes

 ** [TableName](#API_UpdatePartition_RequestSyntax) **   <a name="Glue-UpdatePartition-request-TableName"></a>
The name of the table in which the partition to be updated is located.  
Type: String  
Length Constraints: Minimum length of 1. Maximum length of 255.  
Pattern: `[\u0020-\uD7FF\uE000-\uFFFD\uD800\uDC00-\uDBFF\uDFFF\t]*`   
Required: Yes

## Response Elements


If the action is successful, the service sends back an HTTP 200 response with an empty HTTP body.

The input provided was not valid.

Indicates whether or not the exception relates to a federated source.
