# StartOnDemandAuditTask


Starts an on-demand Device Defender audit.

Requires permission to access the [StartOnDemandAuditTask](https://docs.aws.amazon.com/service-authorization/latest/reference/list_awsiot.html#awsiot-actions-as-permissions) action.

## Request Syntax

## URI Request Parameters


The request does not use any URI parameters.

## Request Body


The request accepts the following data in JSON format.

 ** [targetCheckNames](#API_StartOnDemandAuditTask_RequestSyntax) **   <a name="iot-StartOnDemandAuditTask-request-targetCheckNames"></a>
Which checks are performed during the audit. The checks you specify must be enabled for your account or an exception occurs. Use `DescribeAccountAuditConfiguration` to see the list of all checks, including those that are enabled or `UpdateAccountAuditConfiguration` to select which checks are enabled.

If the action is successful, the service sends back an HTTP 200 response.

The following data is returned in JSON format by the service.

The ID of the on-demand audit you started.  
Type: String  
Length Constraints: Minimum length of 1. Maximum length of 40.  
Pattern: `[a-zA-Z0-9\-]+`

An unexpected error has occurred.

The message for the exception.
HTTP Status Code: 500

 ** InvalidRequestException **   
The request is not valid.

The message for the exception.
HTTP Status Code: 400

 ** LimitExceededException **   
A limit has been exceeded.

The message for the exception.
HTTP Status Code: 410

 ** ThrottlingException **   
The rate exceeds the limit.    
 ** message **   
The message for the exception.
