Prioritization and Severity - Amazon Connect Decisions

Prioritization and Severity

Severity factors enable prioritization based on financial impact, helping you focus on insights that affect your highest-value operations.

Accessing Severity Configuration

From the Insights configuration page, navigate to the Prioritization tab.

What Severity Factors Do

Severity factors translate insights into business impact by calculating:

  • Revenue impact: Lost or at-risk revenue from supply chain disruptions (e.g., stockouts, delayed shipments, unfulfilled demand)

  • Cost impact: Additional costs incurred from supply chain inefficiencies (e.g., excess inventory carrying costs, expedited shipping, obsolescence)

Working with Your Onboarding Teammate

Use your onboarding teammate to configure severity factors conversationally. Ask questions like:

  • "How should we calculate revenue impact for different product categories?"

  • "What cost factors should we include for excess inventory situations?"

  • "Can we weight revenue impact differently for A-class versus C-class products?"

Share your product financial data, cost assumptions, or historical impact analysis. The teammate analyzes your inputs and recommends severity factor configurations that align with your business priorities.

Using Financial Impact in Prioritization

Once configured, severity factors enhance insight filtering and sorting on your Insights pages. The system displays calculated financial impact for each insight based on the type:

  • Stockout insight show revenue impact (estimated lost sales)

  • Excess inventory insight show cost impact (carrying costs and obsolescence risk)

  • Supply disruption insight show revenue impact (delayed fulfillment)

  • Overstock insight show cost impact (additional warehousing and capital costs)

You can filter and sort by financial impact to create a remediation roadmap that maximizes ROI, focusing first on insights with the highest financial implications.

Example: A stockout insight might show $50,000 in daily revenue impact based on lost sales. An excess inventory insight might show $2,000 in daily cost impact from carrying costs plus potential markdown exposure.
