# Tutorial: Run a state machine

When you want to run a state machine, AWS Batch opens the **New execution** page of the Step Functions console.

**To run a state machine**

1. Open the AWS Batch console [Workflow orchestration powered by Step Functions page](https://console.aws.amazon.com/batch/home#stepfunctions).

1. Choose a state machine.

1. Choose **Execute**.

   The Step Functions console opens the **New execution** page.

1. (Optional) Edit the state machine and choose **Start execution**.
